Team Trail Mix and CRD Regional Parks Recruiting Volunteer Trail Ambassadors
Team Trail Mix and CRD Regional Parks have partnered in an exciting new Community Action Project that will see volunteer ambassadors on the Galloping Goose and Lochside regional trails this year.
Team Trail Mix is the 2010 cohort from Leadership Victoria, a voluntary organization committed to developing outstanding community leaders.
The goal for the first year is to have three separate events in which volunteers will be engaging trail users. Volunteers will receive training and orientation sessions by CRD staff to become familiar with the regional trails system and the many types of trail users who regularly use them.
The Lochside and Galloping Goose Regional Trails span approximately 84 kilometres from Sooke to Sidney running through urban back streets to farmland and rugged wilderness. Trail users cycle, stroll, run, or even ride a horse through the rural sections. Many use the trails to commute to work. The Ambassadors’ presence on the trails will help to build awareness, understanding, and appreciation of safer and more effective use of trails as a part of our community life.
The Leadership Victoria program is designed to rapidly advance the skills of emerging leaders in business, government, and voluntary organizations by providing them with an opportunity to work on real-world issues with established leaders. Each year, new teams learn hands on leadership skills while collaborating in aspects of planning, development, community involvement, fundraising and implementation.
