The Future of the Island’s Forestry industry is getting an aerial boost.
Chilliwack based Western Aerial is on Vancouver Island near Mount Washington conducting an extensive fertilization program. They are using a chopper to spray second growth Fertilization products on land managed by Island based logging companies. Ron Gadluck tells CTV Vancouver Island they use pure Nitrogen dropped from the sky.
“The trees become much healthier; stronger and able to fight diseases like the pine beetle.”
Gadluck says the Fertilizer comes from Alberta by rail before being transported to the Island and sprayed by chopper. “We bring this fertilizer all the way from Alberta by rail off load it in Nanaimo and then we spread it by air.”
The company is spreading pure Nitrogen on lands that won’t be logged for at least 7 years by island logging companies.
It gives the trees a real boost in growth helping them to grow faster and stronger.
