After 32 years as a Cook Street mainstay, Cook Street Marketplace will be closing its doors at the end of the month.
Owner of the marketplace, John de Jong has been the proud purveyor of fresh produce, flowers and just about anything you might need.
John has become a fixture in the Cook Street Village and many of his customers and neighbours say they will miss the guitar-playing grocer.
"I'm 32 years here, and I'm also 76 years old, so it's time--the wife said it's time to retire--I said okay, I'm not hard to get along with. I'll still be doing other things. I have my music to do and lots of places want me to play in the afternoon, which I couldn't do because I am here all the time."
Pic-A-Flic, a local video rental business is also leaving Cook Street Village after 35 years to make way for a new development.
