B-C HAZMAT crews were busy Friday; containing two separate hazardous material spills.
Their morning started when plumbers using a excavator in a sewer broke some asbestos piping under a sidewalk.
A portion of Craigflower was closed to traffic for a short period to clear the problem.
HAZAMAT crews were then called to evaluate a mercury spill at a medical centre near Shelbourne and Feltham.
B-C HAAMAT spokesperson Dave Rogers praised staff at the clinic for their quick response.
"The problem with mercury isn't necessarily the spill the problem comes if you inhale it." says Rogers.
Rogers says there was no danger to the public at any point and traffic was not affected in that area.
