The B.C. Liberals say they have a plan to help frequent users of BC Ferries if re-elected.
The party says it will work with BC Ferries to develop a loyalty discount program by 2020 and until then, it will be introducing a new tax reduction for residents dependent on the boats.
“We recognize that coastal residents and islanders are a big part of B.C.,” says Stephen Roberts, Liberal candidate for Saanich North and the Islands. “They are contributors to the province and we want to help them out where they are locating businesses and having families on some of the Islands to help them connect with the mainland.”
The tax reduction for individuals would be 25 per cent of their ferry fares up to $1,000 for a savings of up to $250 a year.
The B.C. Liberals are also promising $1 million in funding to improve the reliability of the WiFi wireless internet on ferry vessels.
The party is getting set to announce its full platform on Monday in Vancouver.
