People who were touched by the story of a little Victoria boy who died over the weekend have started up a GoFundMe Page for his mother.
Four year old Dominic Orr was born with Prader-Willi syndrome, a genetic disorder that causes muscle weakness, slow development, and difficulty eating. He died in his sleep on Saturday.
Victorians and people across the country got to know him after Adam Sawatsky of CTV Vancouver Island did a particularly heartwarming story about how much Dominic loved buses. He would squeal with delight at seeing one, and was even invited to come on board a bus that he was allowed to drive -- with help.
He became known as "Bus Boy". Many are now calling for a double decker bus to be named for him. A petition asking for that has been posted to the change.org website. Dominic's mother has tweeted that her son would have loved that.
BC Transit has put out a statement saying they are saddened by the passing of Dominic Orr "Bus Boy", adding to honour him Transit will be giving Dominic's family a framed photo from his visit to the transit centre. The say staff are also remembering Dominic in their own personal ways.
They do not say whether a bus will be named after him.
