The Canadian Taxpayer's Federation will be watching tomorrow's BC Budget with extreme interest.
BC Director Kris Sims says she'll watching for anything to do with the so-called ICBC "dumpster fire":
" And we also are keeping a close eye on whatever language is being used around ICBC. Because last time around, during the last budget lock up, Finance Minister Carole James said that ICBC was a financial or fiscal risk to the province. And that's absolutely true. And so we're going to be watching those numbers very carefully."
Sims will also be on the lookout for more tax and fee increases.
The last time around she says the carbon tax was jacked up again, the speculation tax was going to become a big problem, and the Employer Health Tax was going to be imposed on employers across the province.
Sims says the EHT impacts not only businesses, but municipal governments as well -- which means their costs went up, forcing property tax increases for most British Columbians.
And she says while last year's budget was balanced, it was because of double-dipping -- or promising to eliminate Medical Services Premiums by next year, while implementing the EHT to cover those costs a year in advance.
