Central Saanich police are looking into the death of a man found lying on a beach Wednesaday night.
Deputy Chief Les Sylvan says a paddle boarder spotted someone lying prone on the rocky shore near Newton Beach about 6:30, and went to investigate -- finding an elderly man in need of medical attention.
The paddle boarder called 911:
" The police and fire and ambulance all attended to render first aid to this elderly male. After about a half an hour he passed away. At this point we've been able to identify that he was male who lived in the area and we've notified next of kin."
Sylvan says the man was 76 years old. Police continue to investigate to ensure no foul play is involved. The BC Coroner's service is also involved.
