A Victoria Leading Seaman who has served two missions and received the Commander of the Navy’s commodation for saving a person from a burning car will stand guard at the Cenotaph in Ottawa on Remembrance Day.
Leading Seaman Kyle Ruttan from CFB Esquimalt tells CTV Vancouver Island he’s humbled by the honour. “To be able to represent the Navy and represent the logistics branch of the Canadian Armed Forces is unbelievable,” Ruttan added.
Ruttan said his great-grandfather was a naval cook in the Second World War, and he wanted to follow in his footsteps.
Ruttan plans to bring his dad with him to Ottawa.
CAF and RCMP sentries will participate in various other activities during their visit, including a dinner hosted by Canadian Forces Chief Warrant Officer, Kevin West, and visits to Parliament Hill and the RCMP Technical and Protective Operations Facility.
