The overnight lows have been dipping into the colder temperatures, and as such, Victoria's Emergency Weather Protocol (EWP) has been activated.
The Extreme Weather Protocol (EWP) is a community program involving various faith groups, social service agencies, fire and police working together to increase the number of shelter spaces available during acute winter weather conditions of heavy wind, snow and snow accumulation, rain and temperatures of zero and below.
Regional Coordinator Jen Wilde says the organization is a few days ahead of its actual season.
"So, we are trying to get in touch with all our participants and our service providers and the staff that we've started training to make sure we can get some of our shelters open for tonight."
Wilde says current shelter spaces will be listed on the EWP website.
"EWP.net and there is a list of shelters that will be open tonight, where they are and how to access them. As we update that list we will be updating the website, so it will be current. If people are trying to figure out which service to access on a night like tonight they should be calling BC-2-1-1 and they can help them with other additional services."
Implementation of the Extreme Weather Response Plan is activated when weather conditions are deemed severe enough to present a substantial threat to the life or health of people experiencing homelessness. Tuesday night's low is expected to dip down to zero with some patchy frost.
