There is one happy doe walking around Vancouver Island after Conservation officer's performed emergency surgery to remove an arrow stuck in the deer's head.
It was touch and go surgery for BC Conservation officers who performed surgery on a deer with an arrow lodged in its head Thursday.
Officers managed to track the deer to Maple Bay north of Victoria. "We were' then able to pull the arrow ou of her face quite easily. There was no tip on the end even."
Sgt Scott Norris says they tranquilized the deer and surgery was successful. "Once that came out we applied some saline, cleaned out the wound. Applied the reversal drug and she was able to walk away from her ordeal."
The deer had just given birth to a fawn.
It's illegal to hunt deer at this time of year, fines can run into the thousands of dollars.
