That's how a BC disability advocate hopes Victoria will move towards a pilot project introducing wheel chairs and mobility scooters to protected bike lanes.
Victoria City council discuss the recommendation to open up protected bike lanes to wheelchairs and mobility scooters. The pilot program would require a change to the Motor Vehicle Act.
Jane Dyson, Executive Director, Disability Alliance BC says she's in favour of a pilot program, but the speed of some bikes using the lanes is a concern.
"I can see that that could be an issue if you have a slower-moving power wheelchair. I think it has to be looked at very carefully so that you don't have accidents with people on bikes, speeding around."
Dyson says the number of mobility scooters is rising and many are taking to the roadways, which presents a significant danger.
