Victoria police want to talk to witnesses to an assault that led to a foot chase and then a vehicle collision last night.
It was just after 11:00 last night when VicPd officers were called to a business at the intersection of Douglas and View streets for a report of an assault with a weapon.
When they got there they found business staff helping the victim who had been pepper-sprayed. As officers were interviewing the victim and canvassing for witnesses, other officers called to the area noticed two people running from the vicinity. Officers circled around in an attempt to interview the pair, and find out if they were connected to the assault. That's when they saw something very suspicious -- a car leaving a parking lot in the 1700-block Store Street, at a high rate of speed and with its lights off.
Moments after that the vehicle collided with another car at the intersection of Pembroke and Government streets. The two occupants, who looked very much like the two people observed running from the area where the assault occurred, attempted to flee, but were apprehended and taken into custody.
Luckily the occupants of the second vehicle involved were not injured.
The suspects, a man and a woman, were taken to hospital to be checked out, before being returned to cells. The victim is not cooperating. It's believed the victim and suspects are known to one another.
Investigators are asking witnesses to the original assault to contact them -- or report what you know anonymously, to Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
