If you've been to Esquimalt Lagoon you are likely familiar with the many driftwood creations by artist Paul Lewis. The Langford man has installed numerous works there for the public to enjoy for free.
Last summer several went missing, and so he created some more. But Lewis says over the weekend a driftwood Steller's Jay, on display just 2 months, disappeared:
" I went down there, Sunday I went down there and I thought I'd bring Christmas hats and put Christmas hats on all the birds and bring a little Christmas cheer down to the lagoon. The Steller's Jay was not there."
The jay was last seen on Thursday.
Lewis says he hopes the creation might be returned so he can fix it and put it back for all to enjoy. He asks the public to keep an eye out:
" It's bright blue, 2 different tones of blue. And it's got a black bottom and a black head and black legs. They left one of the legs when they took it, they left one of the legs attached."
Lewis says sadly, he has yet to get a stolen piece of artwork back in tact.
Asked why he keeps creating the pieces when thieves prey on his creations, he says he simply likes to make people happy, and make them smile.
