Elections BC has referred its investigation into indirect political contributions and other political contraventions of the Election Act to the RCMP. This follow reports the BC Liberals received illegal contributions from lobbyists.
In a news release Chief Electoral Officer, Keith Archer, says he referred the investigation to ensure the agency can concentrate on the May 9th election.
He adds, the referral will help ensure that there is no perception that Elections BC's ability to administer the general election in a fair, neutral and impartial manner is in any way compromised.
Elections BC may support the RCMP as this investigation progresses, and will not be providing further public comment on this matter while the investigation is ongoing.
He says the potential scope and timing of this matter make the RCMP the most appropriate agency to continue this investigation.
