A convict that walked away from the Mission Institution minimum security prison on Saturday was arrested in Saanich early this morning.
48-year old Michael Douglas Sheets is serving a more than 14 year sentence for manslaughter in the deaths of 2 Calgary children in a 2004 firebombing.
Sgt. Jereme Leslie says police received information that Sheets may be in Saanich, and officers were able to confirm he was hiding in an outbuilding in the 5800 block of Old East Road in Saanich.
" So this morning at about 5:20 in the morning we were able to locate and arrest him with the assistance of the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team. And he was arrested without any incident. And right now we are in the process of transferring him back into the custody of the corrections service of Canada. "
The Corrections Service is conducting an investigation into the escape.
Sheets also escaped from the William Head Institution in Metchosin during an escorted absence in 2015, but he was quickly recaptured.
