Many other jurisdictions are introducing a $15 per hour minimum wage, so why not BC?
That is the message from BC Federation of Labour President Irene Lanzinger who says Ontario has brought it in and Alberta is about to.
She says she was happy to hear that the initiative is a lot closer now that a new government involving the NDP and Greens may be close to forming.
However, Lanzinger says businesses will need time to adjust.
"We agree that there needs to be a timeline, that businesses need a warning, that they need to be able to plan, we completely understand that. But, we hope there won't be too great of a delay."
On Tuesday, NDP Leader John Horgan and BC Green Leader Andrew Weaver outlined their new government would establish an at-arm’s-length fair wages commission that will establish a pathway to a 15-dollar-an-hour minimum wage and make recommendations on bridging the minimum wage to “livable wages.”
