Beginning Wednesday, a fire ban goes into effect for most of the Southern Coastal Region.
The Coastal Fire Centre has announced category two open fires will be prohibited in its jurisdiction beginning Wednesday at noon, except for Haida Gwaii and the "fog zone" along the west coast of Vancouver Island.
The ban applies to open fires no larger than two metres high by three metres wide, or grass burning of less than 0.2 hectares.
It doesn’t apply to campfires smaller than 0.5 metres high by 0.5 metres wide.
It also means that fireworks, firecrackers, sky lanterns, burning barrels, cages or binary exploding targets are prohibited.
Anyone defying the fire ban may be issued a ticket for $1,150 or face jail time.
The ban will remain in effect until October 20, 2017.
