A fire at a recycling facility at Bridge and Ellis Street was quickly contained Tuesday afternoon.
Victoria Fire Department's Battalion Chief Mark Robertson says the blaze at the Cascade Recycling facility started in a conveyer belt system that was moving cardboard boxes. Thankfully the sprinkler system kept things manageable until crews arrived.
Roberston says there was a potential for the blaze to be much worse:
"There's a super huge fire load in this building due to recycling. But it's fairly well organized and compartmentalized. And, like I say, the building sprinkler system did its job."
No cause has been determined yet.
