Fish Farm employees rescued a very weak, underweight seal pup near Hardwicke Island off the coast of Campbell River Monday.
According to CTV Vancouver Island the little pup, a northern fur seal estimated to be about 7 months old -- was spotted swimming in a strange manner, floating sideways and unable to dive.
Pacific Coastal Airlines provided a free flight to the Vancouver Aquarium Marine Mammal Rescue Centre in Vancouver.
Dubbed "Mo" in honour of the Mowi Fish Farm employees who rescued her, she is small for her age, dehydrated and severely underweight.
Mo is receiving fluids, antibiotics, and a gastric protectant to stabilize her before she receives a thorough exam.
The rescue centre rehabilitated and released a male northern fur seal in 2017, and hope that Mo's feistiness is a sign she will survive and gain a new chance at life in the wild.
Northern fur seals are listed as "threatened" by the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada.
