The $3-million stretch of the Fort Street bike lane will be open for use this weekend. The opening is scheduled for 11:30 Sunday morning, and coincides with the Fort Street Festival which runs from 11 til 2:00.
Mayor Lisa Helps says she knows it's been very disruptive for merchants, particularly in the 700 Block of Fort, because of the need to fix underground infrastructure.
The price tag for the entire 5.4 kms of bike lanes is now at $14.5 million. That works out to about $2.7 million per kilometre.
Meantime at their weekly meeting Thursday city councillors will consider the option of using Vancouver Street instead of Cook street for the continuing bike lane project.
