Victoria City council has approved the rezoning of a James Bay Hotel. Harbour Towers Hotel will soon become a residential apartment building.
Council approved the move after learning that the building would be renovated and renamed. Mayor Lisa Helps says the development will bring 219 new rental units to help with Victoria's tight rental market. "They range in size from studio to two bedrooms and this isn't a new build these are units that could enter the market sooner rather than later. It is taking rooms out of the hotel stock but I have murmurs of some new hotels being built down the road so we will have to wait and see."
The building will drop the hotel moniker and will be known as Harbour Towers.
Renovations on the 13-storey property are expected to be completed by 2019.
