A CFB Esquimalt-based navy ship, has seized more than 600 kilograms of cocaine off the coast of Central America.
HMCS Saskatoon working with the US Coast Guard intercepted a suspicious vessel on Sunday. Navy crew members boarded the vessel after it was spotted by a maritime patrol aircraft.
Thirty-three bales, approximately 660 kilograms, of cocaine were recovered from inside the vessel and the ocean after the suspected smugglers threw some of the cargo overboard.
Three suspected smugglers were arrested.
The Canadian Navy ship is patrolling the Eastern Pacific as part of operation CARIBBE.
