An intergenerational conference is happening this weekend, but with a twist.
"Moving Trans History Forward", the third biennial conference will be held at the University of Victoria featuring keynote speakers, youth and elder panels and the arts.
About 300 people from all over North America, Europe and Asia will gather at UVic for the largest conference of its kind in North America.
This year's conference has an inter-generational theme and will "explore the past, present and future of trans, non-binary and Two-Spirit lives in all their diversity."
Aaron Devor, UVIC chair of Transgender Studies and organizer of the conference says everyone is welcome.
"First of all there are many people who have trans family members, friends, co-workers. There are people who work with the trans community, and then there are a whole lot of people who says --you know what, I just need to know more about this."
A keynote speaker for the conference is Andrea Jenkins, the first openly transgender black woman elected to public office in the U.S. -- she currently serves as an elected member of Minneapolis City Council.
