Something was missing from the NDP government's budget. There wasn't anything indicating the Province is prepared to get working on fixes for congestion issues affecting the Capital Regional District.
That, despite a call from the 13 mayors of the CRD for the Province to include funds as a signal the government is serious about moving quickly once a plan is in place.
Langford Mayor Stew Young says there was money for various projects in and around Vancouver, but no mention of the corridor from Victoria to the Malahat:
"You know I thought there might have been some mention. But you know, I'll have to talk to the minister now of Finance. I've talked to some of the highway staff already. I just need to see where that money is for the next year for the improvements that are required right now, especially since the 2 fatalities. This is high on Langford's agenda and I have to keep pushing for it to make sure that we get the fixes there, at least for the safety concerns that we're concerned about."
Young says adding to the urgency for Langford are 2 fatal head on collisions at Highway 1 and Leigh Rd, and the continued congestion affecting the quality of life for area residents trying to get back and forth to work.
