It's been a year since Donald Trump won the U-S presidential election and it’s been a tumultuous year with Trump at the helm.
There is something called the 'Trump Effect' for people who want to get out of the United States and come to Canada, and it's being felt here in Victoria.
Victoria Immigration Lawyer David Aujla says there is no doubt that the Trump rhetoric has increased American-based immigration to Canada.
"When President Obama was in power, perhaps about 10 per cent of my files were American-based. Well today, it's about 50 per cent, so there's no doubt that Trump as had a pretty positive effect on immigration to Canada."
Aujla says immigration spans a whole demographic of the U-S population, from those worried about the high cost of health premiums to those immigrating through NAFTA under a number of recognized professional fields.
