Crown counsel has decided not to approve charges against a man who jumped off a BC Ferries vessel and bursted into a home on Galiano Island.
Coastal Celebration was sailing to Swartz Bay on November 4 of last year when it was delayed for hours after a man deployed a $50-thousand dollar life boat and leapt into the waters below.
A search of the water was quickly ordered, but while police were en route they received a frantic call from a resident on Galiano Island reporting that a wet, naked, and incoherent man had entered her home and was throwing furniture around. Police arrested the man a short time later after he entered a cabin in a nearby resort.
RCMP forwarded a package to crown recommending a number of charges. Crown counsel, however, has decided not to approve the charges, saying it's not in the public's interest based on the mental health issues of the accused.
BC Ferries says a lifetime ban it issued the man the month of his arrest still stands.
