The Mayor of Colwood says the issue of traffic congestion on the Trans Canada cannot be solved in a silo.
Carol Hamilton would like to see representatives of local and provincial governments come together to find solutions, and she is tired of the TCH being called the "Colwood Crawl." Hamilton says the TCH doesn't even pass through Colwood.
Last week, Hamilton sent a letter to Premier John Horgan, his Minister of Transportation, BC Transit and local area mayors requesting a meeting to move forward on solutions to traffic congestion in the Capital Region.
She says a solution might start with fastracking shoulder lanes for transit and,
"Complete the study that had been started and partially done by Ken Mariash on the E&N to see if it is feasible for a train or should it be some other form of transportation. I don't know what the solution to that is, but don't lose the corridor."
Hamilton says dedicated lanes for transit and HOV would lay the foundation for future light rail transit, should the region's density grow to the point that it becomes feasible.
