Election night in Greater Victoria saw several incumbent mayors lose their bids for reelection.
Oak Bay elected a new mayor by nearly 3,000 votes.
Kevin Murdoch upset incumbent Nils Jensen, 5,042 votes to 2,138.
Murdoch, a two term councilor in Oak Bay, watched the results come in from the Penny Farthing Pub surrounded by his campaign team and supporters.
During his victory speech, Murdoch says he's ready to get to the work. "Somebody asked if I'm excited, but I've actually been waiting to get to the work. The campaign is necessary to get to the work. So I'm just excited about the chance to get to that work, and try to fix all the issues and deal with the things, and make out community a better place." He adds that he's excited to work with the council, and "build some cohesion, and build a group that really does work for the benefit of the community."
Murdoch also acknowledged all the work Nils Jensen has done in the past, saying he has done a lot of great work, and has taught him a lot in the past two terms while on council.
