More than 75% of the projects along Highway 14/Sooke Rd. are either complete or nearing completion, and the Ministry of Transportation says they are ready to start on the next phase of the improvements.
It was in January Premier John Horgan, MLA for the area (Langford-Juan de Fuca) announced new bus pull-outs, improved lighting and signage, and a rest area at Sombrio Beach would be added. Those are now done -- with the rest area slated to open later this month.
Next month a slow-moving vehicle pullout east of Muir Creek will be complete, and a new 2-lane bridge on Gillespie Road will open in November.
The next phase involves making the Sooke River Road intersection safer for pedestrians and cyclists. Construction is expected to start in October. A bus-queue jump lane at Jacklin Road will get underway later this year, with completion slated for spring.
The province also received feedback from highway users to be considered as part of fututre planning.
Some of the feedback included, more roadside reflectors, highway realignments and additional passing lanes.
