Saanich is planning on building a bike lane along West Saanich Road near the Royal Oak Shopping Centre.
The project is a final phase of West Saanich Rd Street Scape, which fulfills key policies identified in the District's Official Community Plan.
Saanich Councillor, Colin Plant tells CFAX 1070 it will complete gaps in the cycling and pedestrian facilities along West Saanich Road.
"The other side of Quadra as it heads over towards MacKenzie is not a great street for cycling and Glanford as you head South from Quadra is not a great biking corridor either in certain sections. So, it's all part of the plan to make it more bike-friendly and to make it more walking-friendly, that's the other piece."
The project is in the 'detailed design' phase and construction is planned to begin next summer.
