Several South Island police agencies are joining forces to enhance 9-1-1 dispatch services.
A new South Island Dispatch Centre will operate as the 'first point' of contact for 9-1-1 callers. The centre will house police call-taking and dispatch for the Victoria, Saanich, Central Saanich and Oak Bay police departments as well as local RCMP detachments. The centre will also be located in a purpose-built emergency response and post disaster building.
The new CRD-owned facility will be located at 4219 Commerce Circle in Saanich and is expected to be operational by early 2019.
To date, the Province has contributed $100,000 to support this project and the consolidation of 9-1-1 services on Vancouver Island.
