A pet owner says she will be filing suit against BC Ferries after her puppy ate marijuana that had been dropped on the floor of the dog play area on board the Coastal Renaissance.
Alyx Speth says her 5 month old pup became lethargic, and started suffering seizures as the ferry neared the terminal.
She called the emergency pet hospital and got him there right away -- and says there's no doubt it was marijuana:
"I had pulled some of the cannabis out of his mouth so I knew what he had. And then when we got there they immediately took him away and they induced vomiting, and they gave him charcoal. And they kept him overnight, they kept him hooked up to an IV in an incubator overnight with giving him more medicine and monitoring him to ensure he was going to be okay."
Her pet is doing fine now -- but Speth maintains that BC Ferries has an obligation to check and clean the pet area after every sailing since people are not allowed to stay in their cars.
" I think if they are going to put you in that room and you can't stay in your car, then they need to ensure that they sweep out that room. A simple sweep would have saved my dog."
Speth says BC Ferries staff need to do a better job clkeaning the pet area in between sailings. She has contacted a lawyer over the incident.
