BC's Representative for Children and Youth Office has announced the appointment of a new Deputy Representative, Advocacy and First Nations, Metis and Inuit Relations. Samantha Cocker takes over her new role August 31st.
Cocker is of Cree and Scottish Ancestry, and brings 20 years' experience in a wide area of services including child welfare, particularly Indigenous child welfare in BC.
Cocker will work on the Office's expanded advocacy mandate serving young adults in transition and those transitioned out of care. She will also work to support RCY in implementing and monitoring practices called for by the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women's Inquiry, The Truth and Reconcilation Commission and other reports.
