A regional transportation authority for the Capital Regional District is not something under consideration with the current government.
John Horgan says he has changed his stance on the possibility of a regional transportation authority throughout his political career, but has settled on not creating one for now.
“I learned more about the challenges in Vancouver, particularly with TransLink which started as a regional transportation agency,” said Horgan. “It is disconnected from the needs of the community and it is focused on the loudest voice at the table. I believe that currently the plan that we’re laying out with the Victoria Transportation Commission as it is exists is successful.”
Horgan says that although the current system is working out, he may be open to revisiting the idea in the future.
