A Sooke bridge project helped a construction firm win a top prize at the Deputy Minister's Consulting Engineers Awards Thursday night in Vancouver.
WSP Canada Incorporated won the 'Construction Management and Supervision Services' award for its work on the Roche Cove Bridge Replacement project.
A single lane bridge was replaced with a 2-lane structure to handle traffic diversion in case of emergencies on Sooke Rd/Hwy 14.
The award recognizes that the firm's innovation and careful planning in overcoming numerous challenges, including working on a previously known archeological site, to deliver the new bridge.
Several other firms were honoured in categories like design, specialized engineering services and alternate transportation in projects around the province.
Also honoured were: VIA Architecture for its part in upgrading the Metrotown SkyTrain Station; Associated Engineering for retrofitting and seismically upgrading the Alexandra Bridge in Spuzzum; SNC-Lavalin Inc. for its work on a 6-laning project in Kelowna; and Northwest Hydrolics for its support and response to changing priorities following storm damage in the South Peace region that caused flooding
and damage to communities.
