Saanich Police are looking for more witnesses to a dangerous driving incident 2 nights ago (Tuesday) on Royal Oak Drive -- near Lochside Elementary school.
About 8:30 pm an officer was driving west in the 11-hundred-block -- near Lochside Elementary School -- and observed a 2017 black Ford Fusion moving east at a high rate of speed.
The driver was attempting to overtake another vehicle travelling at around 120 km/h in the 50 km/h zone.
Sgt. Jereme Leslie says the officer was forced to take evasive action as the car headed into oncoming traffic. The Fusion crashed about a block away:
" About a block away is the intersection of Royal Oak Dr. and Cordova Bay Rd., and that vehicle ended up leaving the roadway after it tried to negotiate a curve in the road and ended up crashing. We were able to identify the driver, who is a 21 year old Saanich man, and he was arrested at the scene for dangerous driving."
Leslie says it's fortunate no one was injured, as there were pedestrains in the area at the time.
The driver has been charged with Dangerous Driving and has been released from custody. He has a court appearance date next month.
Investigators ask anyone who may have witnessed the crash, or saw the vehicle prior to the crash, to call them at 250-475-4321.
