There has been another snag in proceeding with the Sandown development in North Saanich, but the District mayor says it could be for the good of project.
Mayor Alice Finall says during their regular council meeting last week, North Saanich gave approval to the Sandown Reclamation and Drainage Plan. The Plan disclosed that District storm water runoff was accumulating on the Sandown Lands from adjacent District land.
Council has approved funding of $569,000 to address management of the storm water. That means the owner can then move forward with sub-dividing the land and cleaning up derelict buildings on the 83 acre property.
"I know it was unexpected, but it was also one that wasn't easy to anticipate because it simply wasn't known until the detailed final work was done by the engineering and analytical people," says Finnal.
83 acres – is to be transferred by the owners to the District for use as agricultural land.
12 acres of the site along McDonald Park Road are being developed as a commercial area, the first tenant of which is Canadian Tire.
