Victoria City Council has taken another step toward easing the cities housing crunch.
Thursday night Council voted in favour of changing the secondary suites building bylaw in the hopes of enticing homeowners to build secondary suites.
It's hoped the bylaw change will give renters in the city more options and bring more apartments to the rental market.
The modificaton cuts out a lot of red tape and will make it easier for those with illegal suites to come into compliance as well.
Victoria has a point-zero-five vacancy rate.
Earlier this month council voted to allow garden suites in any residential area - instead of approving them on a case by case basis.
These changing regulations are part of Victoria's ten-year housing strategy.
