The Mayor of View Royal wants to raise awareness and interest in the revitalization of the E&N Rail line by bringing forward a motion at the upcoming meeting of the Association of Vancouver and Coastal Communities.
David Screech wants the BC government to amend legislation enabling Vancouver Island Municipalities and regional districts to collect development cost charges in order to pay for the revitalization of the aging transportation line.
Screech says in order for a trains to roll, the rail lines need to be upgraded.
"Really it is just falling more and more into more decay and nobody is taking charge. We feel it is time to have the conversation and look at different ways of rejuvenating it."
When asked whether the E&N line is crucial to Vancouver Island transportation needs, Screech responded by referencing current traffic congestion issues such as the Colwood Crawl, and the Malahat.
