Sooke RCMP are sharing more information about an arrest they made during a traffic stop early Friday morning.
In response to a shooting in Langford where one man was shot, suffering non-life threatening injuries, they set up a road block in the 55-hundred block Sooke Road to keep a watch out for suspects.
Just after 2:00 a.m. officers checked a westbound Ford SUV being driven by a woman -- a 53 year old resident of Victoria.
Officers noticed a man slumped in the back seat, not wearing a seatbelt. He was a 22 year old resident of Victoria who identified himself. A police check revealed he was under a firearms prohibition.
As the man stepped out of the vehicle, an officer saw ammunition sticking out of a pants pocket.
Before he could be arrested he fled on foot, eastbound on Sooke Road, heading up Woodlands and stopping at a property in the 5800 block of Blythwood. RCMP say the suspect was combative and they used a Taser to arrest him safely.
The female driver was also arrested on outstanding warrants out of West Shore Detachment.
The young man has been released on Promise to Appear for Breach of Probation. His court date in Colwood is June 27th. No name has been released.
At this point the West Shore RCMP are investigating to determine if there is a connection between the man and the shooting in Langford.
