Victoria Fire Department was called to the Belfry Theatre late last night after the fire alarms went off. Crews accessed the building and determined a sprinkler had been flowing in a workshop area that housed some electrical and lighting equipment.
After the fire fighters shut off the water they determined a small fire had occurred in the workshop. The fire originated in a pile of fire resistive Gel Frames, however, there was no obvious source of ignition. The sprinkler system had completely extinguished the fire, but also flooded the basement with about 15 cm of water.
The Fire Investigator determined the fire to be caused by an exposed electrical wire that was in contact with the Gel Frames. There was an estimated $25,000 in damages.
