The Terry Fox Run is happening today on Dallas Rd. and starts at 10am at Mile Zero.
The run, which take place across Canada, are a legacy to Terry Fox's Marathon of Hope which took place in 1980 with the simple objective of informing Canadians of the importance of finding a cure for cancer. With fierce determination, Terry, who was diagnosed with bone cancer, ran an average of 42 kilometres every day for 143 days.
Terry was forced to end his run on September 1, 1980 when the cancer spread to his lungs.
Organizers say the race is Suitable for bikes, wheelchairs and roller blades. Dogs on leash are also welcome. There is a 1 km, 2 km, 5 km, and 10 km option and you can register at www.terryfox.ca/terryfoxrun/mile0.
