A tense situation in Nanaimo today where fire crews rescued 3 people from a burning boat.
The trio were taken to hospital with unknown injuries. The burning vessel was towed the shore of Neck Point Park to make it easier on crews to fight.
The boat was fully engulfed in flames, and there were winds to contend with -- making it extremely difficult to extinguish. Ultimately it was allowerd to burn out.
As a precaution a spill response vessel was called in to set up a boom to prevent fuel leaks. A Coast Guard hovercraft was also summoned.
The cause of the blaze is not known.
