A legendary Sooke diner is up for sale.
Mom's Cafe -- located across from the community hall, and just off Highway 14/Sooke Rd. -- has been a popular go-to spot for locals and travellers since 1963.
The real estate listing describes the business as a 65-seat "diner legend" that's been providing home-cooked breakfast, burgers, fish and chips and in-house famous pies to happy patrons for decades.
The listing also notes Mom's was renovated in 2006, and there are management and staff in place.
The $810-thousand price includes a quarter acre parcel of land. An adjoining lot is also for sale for $375-thousand.
The listing notes the diner is "an outstanding holding/redevelopment opportunity" with both lots totalling just over half an acre.
Owner Tom Dee and his wife Elaine, former Boeing engineers from Seattle, bought the business 15 years ago. He is now 80 years old and ready to retire.
He says while he hopes the cafe will continue on, the property is zoned for condos, which would be attractive for a developer.
Dee says he hopes someone will buy it, and consider keeping the restaurant on the bottom floor with condos above.
