More than 3 decades after the murders of a young Victoria couple in Washington State, the Snohomish county Sheriff's office has released fresh information thanks to new DNA technology.
Officials are circulating three images of what they believe the suspect in the case would have looked like at age 25 in 1987, as well as two other images show the suspect at age 45 and 65.
18 year old Tanya Van Cuylenborg and 20 year old Jay Cook were reported missing two days after they went travelled to the U.S. on November 20, 1987. The young sweethearts were running an errand in Port Angeles for Jay's father. Their bodies were discovered days later, in separate locations. Tanya has been sexually assaulted and shot in the back of the head. Jay had been beaten and strangled.
Jay Cook's sister Laura spoke at the news conference Wednesday in Everett Washington. She shared a memory of the last time she saw her brother alive.
"As he drove away I remember standing in the window, waving. He was on his way to pick up Tanya, and then to catch the Coho ferry from Victoria to Port Angeles. When your brother or sister, daughter or loved one walks out the door, you have no way of knowing if it's the last time you will see them.:
The family's of both victims have issued a personal plea, asking the public to view to DNA images and new information circulating to catch whoever is responsible for the murders. The families are offering a $50,000 reward for any information that provides a DNA match to the accused killer. The reward expires on December 31st, 2018.
