Saanich Police are hamming it up following an unsual capture they were called to this (Fri) morning on Santa Clara Avenue, off Cordova Bay Rd and the Pat Bay Highway/Hwy 17.
A large pig had escaped her enclosure and was running around the grounds of Elk Lake School.
Acting Sgt. Jereme Leslie says since pound staff weren't available -- Saanich PD stepped in "jiggety-jig":
"Our officers were obviously quite concerned about that causing a major incident on Highway 17, so we went over into the area and we located the pig. Now there's some conversation whether it was on its way to market or it should have stayed home, we're not quite sure which."
One of the officers was raised in rural Saskatchewan, so had some knowledge of what to do about the massive sow. They used straps to secure the beast and get her home:
" They did, they did get it home. They brought home the bacon this morning."
Saanich PD posted a photo to twitter, noting they were likely "opening themselves up to some colourful comments from the public". And they have not been disappointed. Leslie says many comments have come in, many cannot be shared.
