West Shore RCMP will unveil its Wall of Honour on Thursday, the 2 year anniversary of the death of Cst. Sarah Beckett.
The wall is to commemorate the sacrifices of fallen West Shore RCMP Members and Police officers across Canada have made to their communities.
Cst. Beckett's family will be in attendance. The unveiling ceremony will be held at the West Shore RCMP Detachment in Langford at noon Thursday.
West Shore spokesman Constable Matt Baker says the unveiling is a chance to give Sarah the honour she deserves.
He says the community has given an outpouring of support since her death, adding while 2 years have passed since the tragedy it seems like yesterday to those who knew her.
Beckett had just returned to duty after maternity leave when a pickup truck ran a red light and struck her cruiser in an intersection.
The driver, Kenneth Fenton, pleaded guilty to impaired driving causing death and dangerous driving causing death, and recieved 4 years in prison last July.
Baker requests the public respectfully provide space within the foyer for family, RCMP members, and invited guests during the ceremony -- but says the lobby will be remain open throughout the day and during business hours for anyone who wishes to view the Wall and offer their respects.
