VicPd officers have had to deal with 2 violent incidents in 2 days -- and in the latest an officer is hospitalized. It happened this (Fri) morning when policew were called to a report of a break and enter in progress in the 500-block of Johnson Street.
An officer noticed a man at Douglas and Pandora that matched the suspect's description. After stopping to speak to him the man assaulted one of the officers and attempted to assault the other, then fled. He was stopped at Douglas and Yates where a Taser was used, but had no effect on the man. After a brief struggle, the man was arrested -- but not before another officer was injured.
Cnst Matt Rutherford says one was injured seriously enough to be held in hospital:
" Two officers were both taken to the hospital, both suffering non-life-threatening injuries. They potentially will be off work for some time. And one officer still remains in hospital."
The nature of the injuries is not being released.
Meantime ... in another incident in the 800-block of Cormorant Street yesterday (Thursday) 2 officers were assaulted trying to arrest a man who had reportedly been fighting at an area business.
" And when they went in to arrest him he because extremely violent, assaulting 2 officers in the process of the arrest. Additional officers attended and we were able to safely arrest him."
Both officers are okay to return to work. The man was was involved in another serious altercation with police last year. He is charged with resisting arrest, assaulting a police officer and breaching his probation.
