VicPd has produced a 7-segment video series, airing on line, to show the community what law enforcement is doing to target the fentanyl crisis.
Police spokesperson Cst. Matt Rutherford says viewers will get a look inside VicPD's fight against fentanyl and the amount of resources being devoted to the crisis as they track down a known fentanyl dealer through the Quadra Village neighbourhood:
" We follow along with a case, he was in the Quadra Village area. We go along with our surveillance unit. We talk to Connor King, whose is the expert throughout the whole series, and who is a fentanyl expert himself. And he walks people though the process of how we eventually arrested this individual."
Rutherford says the series is aimed at raising awareness, and highlighting the work being done to get traffickers and the drugs off our streets:
" It just brings awareness to show that we are working hard to get these people off our streets, and this drug off our streets. It's causing a lot of upset families with people losing loved ones. It's affecting first responders going to overdoses. And we just want to bring awareness to the crisis some more."
The first very brief episode is called "Focus On a Killer" and introduces viewers to the hosts and purpose fot he series. It's live now at vicpd.ca/fightingfentanyl as well as VicPD's YouTube channel.
Episodes of the 7-segment series will be released on Tuesdays and Thursdays of each week. The series runs from August 29th to September 19th.
